Things that are depressing: Listening to my interview with someone who works at a long-term care facility, and when she talks about their 104-year-old resident, I chime in and say, “That’s gonna be my great-grandma.” I mean, I guess I knew she wasn’t actually going to live to be that old, it was just jarring to hear myself say that now.

I hate making posts like this for reasons that I don’t even get, but since this is how I communicate with a lot of people (sad, I know), it seemed like I should say something. Saturday, my great-grandma died and today was the little memorial at the cemetery. She was 98 — would have been 99 next month — and she’d been ill, though we thought she was going to hang around a little longer. It’s sad, but she had a nice long life, and by this point she was tired of burying loved ones younger than her, so…it’s bittersweet. As most things are.

This has been the week from hell for numerous reasons — okay, maybe three reasons, but they made an impact — so I’m now going to make a list of good things that make this week a little brighter:

I just had five inches hacked off my hair and got long layers, so my hair feels approximately 10 pounds lighter
at least one of my cat’s ears seems to be bacteria-free now \o/
my brother started dating his first girlfriend, and described her to me with phrases like “she’s a cool cat” and “she’s full of awesome”
I had lunch on Sunday with a friend I don’t often see
my boss is on vacation all week — enough said
tree pollen levels are starting to decrease
my coworker gave me a Cherry Coke and crackers with cheese for no reason other than kindness
another coworker told me a story about the time — in her early twenties — that she went to the ER because she was bleeding from her vagina and didn’t think it was her period, but it totally was her period, and that made me realize that lots of people have stupid ER stories, so I felt better
I devoured almost all of Looking for Alaska in one sitting
tomorrow is drinks with friends, and that will be good
Saturday is a home-cooked meal by a wonderful friend who I rarely get to see anymore
Sunday (technically next week, but roll with it) is Les Mis with my brother and sister
I have somewhere to live, food to eat, a job, a cat to love, good people to call my friends, and — despite everything — a car and my health
